In 1961, Robbie began 22 years as a secondary English teacher, finishing her teach- ing career at Keller High School while her husband worked for Grapevine- Colleyville ISD as superintendent. She especially loved teaching, writ- ing and research. They retired in 1985 and moved back to San Angelo. They were active in Southland Baptist Church. Hegar served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and general staff for 28 years, including wartime ser- vice in the Pacific theater (1942-45) and Korea (1952-53).

He and his fam- ily spent tours of duty in Georgia, Ja- pan, New Jersey, Virginia, Germany and San Antonio. He attended the Command and General Staff School in Kansas and received the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Nation- al Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Korean Ser- vice Medal with three campaign stars, among other decorations. Joe was an avid gardener, wine maker and family genealogist. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Arlington (2006-08), Shep- herd King Lutheran in San Antonio (1965-2006), the SPJST, the San An- tonio Garden Club and the UT Texas Exes. Luedtke FORT WORTH Raymond G. Luedtke, 91, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008. MEMORIAL SERVICE: No service is planned in the Metroplex or Chica- go areas. Ray Luedtke has been cre- mated and will be buried at Greenleaf Cemetery in Minnesota in the spring of 2008, where his parents and sever- al of his siblings rest in peace.

Raymond G. Luedtke was born in 1916, in Waseca County, as the third of nine children. He spent his childhood living in Cedar Mills, where his father owned and operated the local pool hall and dance pavilion while his mother, a former teacher, was the U.S. postal mis- tress. At an early age Raymond ex- hibited a unique talent for drawing.

During the Depression, Raymond at- tended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and later the Ameri- can Academy of Art and the Art In- stitute of Chicago to pursue a career as a commercial artist. In 1939, Ray- mond married Bernice Malanowski. In 1943, Raymond was inducted into the Navy and trained as an aerial pho- tographer while stationed in Hawaii. After being discharged, Raymond re- turned to live and work in the Chica- goland area, where he built a suc- cessful career as a self-employed graphic artist with a studio located in the Chicago loop. By the 1970s he was beginning to paint again, using watercolors, and subsequently taught himself to be a master carver of duck decoys and assorted bird wildlife.

After retiring from the ad- vertising business, he continued to paint and carve. Raymond relocated to Fort Worth in 2000 to live closer to his son. In 2003, Raymond moved into the Ridg- mar Town Village retirement center where he continued his painting and carving into 2007. In early 2008, he died two weeks after abdominal sur- gery was performed to attempt to rectify a perforation of a colon that occurred during a diagnostic proce- dure. Raymond family would like to thank all his friends and neigh- bors who made his life so full and en- joyable.

They would also like to thank the nursing staff in the ICU unit and in the hospice area at All Saints Hos- pital for all their dedication and care during the last two weeks of his life. He is also survived by 50 nieces and nephews who remem- ber childhood visits to see Uncle Ray and Aunt Bernice. His presence among these singers at their various concerts and church ap- pearances will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Nowlin. Reece of Itasca on May 16, 1940. They lived all over Texas, as R.D. was a lineman for the electrical network. They set- tled in Fort Worth in 1945, and lived in the house that R.D. built with his own hands until the times of their deaths.

Gladys and R.D. had been faithful members of First Baptist Church of White Settlement since 1945. Gladys celebrated her 90th birthday Feb. 21, 2008. Mother, we will miss you.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, R.D. Reece, and a son, Billy Joe Reece.
