Realized the Pack wasn't going to be on live tv on Sunday so decided to find a not so far surface collecting drive away road trip... Settled on Ivins to Enterprise, UT (about an hour). Thought I'd share some cool pics of my trip including up and back through Snow Canyon State Park... I was definitely worried it might be a bit too cold for this former Floridian when I started driving through snow and seeing it all over the valley! Met a nice couple from up in Syracuse camping for the week and hitting all the rockhounding spots they could find. Here's some of the view along the way: Thought I'd share a pic of the rockhounding go kart, haven't found anywhere it can't go! First up was a jaunt up Holt Canyon (outside Enterprise)... just purchased a few new rotary tumblers and needed some material Also found a few very nice large chunks I hope to have a local sphere maker turn into some nice 5"-6" showpieces! Worth the trip to the top of the mountain, the material kept getting better and better, and so many jasper colors! Here's some of the large chunks (pics of the smaller pieces to come once cleaned!) Still had a few hours of daylight, and after a quick break for a late lunch, hit the local rock shop to ask about potential spots to hunt for indian blanket jasper... I'd had some luck finding small pieces wandering around in washes near Enterprise, but was given some nice info on new dirt road grading in the area that might be worth a look... off I went! Found a handful of small, tumble pieces, but also found 3 very nice large chunks I plan on cutting or potentially making some spheres as well (going to get a bit more expensive than I had hoped! Always head back through Snow Canyon on my way home, nice relaxing way to end any trip North and especially this week with the large American Flag waving free in the canyon! Hope you enjoy and more to come from the haul and tumbled once available! |

Pretty sure these are artifacts, a holt canyon jasper arrow or spear head and a chalcedony point/tool? Any clue what the chalcedony piece would have been used for? |

Thanks for sharing! Love the color in that first big piece for sure! I'm tagging RickB to see what he thinks of those points. It looks to me like the big one's been worked for sure! Wicked cool finds there!!! |

By the way, you can "tag" someone so they get notified of a reply from you two ways (that way they know you needed/wanted their attention): 1. You can quote the person by pushing the "Quote" button on the top right of that person's quote. It'll take you to the Reply page. Then you can type your reply to them under their quote box. (That'll make sense the first time you do it! LOL) or 2. You can just "tag" the person by putting a @ symbol in front of their username. You see how you're in yellow at the top of this reply? That's because I put a @ in front of ivinsrockhound like this: ivinsrockhound |

I tried the first method before but couldn't get the photos to load... and wasn't sure on the tagging ability as it didn't underline your names the first time I tried it, still learning and appreciate any and all advice!!! |

I tried the first method before but couldn't get the photos to load... and wasn't sure on the tagging ability as it didn't underline your names the first time I tried it, still learning and appreciate any and all advice!!! We all start somewhere! Here's the trick for posting pics with a reply: Click on the Quote button - for the person you want to quote. Then hit Reply. That'll take you to the Reply page. Then look at the bottom of the Create Post box. There's two tabs. You'll be on the "Preview" tab. If you go to the BBCode tab, you can highlight that person's original quote and copy it. Cloudinary doesn't allow pics on a Quoted Reply...but allows it on a "normal" reply. So the above is the workaround. Again...it sounds complicated until you do it for the first time or two... |

Show it to someone near you that is familiar with native American artifacts. |
